Official Blue Wahoos Medical Directors Announced

January 3, 2012

Following their announcement of the Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine as the official team medical provider, the Pensacola Blue Wahoos today named Dr. Juliet DeCampos, M.D., and Dr. Roger Ostrander, M.D., as official team Medical Directors. Both DeCampos and Ostrander are highly regarded orthopaedic surgeons with extensive experience in treating athletes from the high school, collegiate, and professional levels.

Blue Wahoos President Bruce Baldwin stated that DeCampos and Ostrander were selected based on their experience and a rigorous interview and professional evaluation by the Cincinnati Reds organization, including Dr. Timothy Kremchek, M.D., the Medical Director and Chief Orthopaedic Surgeon for the Cincinnati Reds.

"As I think the community is learning, being a part of a Major League franchise means that we have to meet the standards set by the Cincinnati Reds when it comes to things like medical care for the players, branding, and marketing, among other things. To be selected as Medical Director for a Major League franchise is a significant accomplishment. The Reds organization sees the Blue Wahoos, and the players that Drs. DeCampos and Ostrander will be treating, as organizational assets. We as a team and an organization invest a lot in these players. The Reds, as well as the Blue Wahoos, want to make sure that these players have the best care available to keep them healthy, to help them recover from injury, and to ensure they have the best chance of being successful professional athletes," said Baldwin.

"Having this sort of medical capability right here in Pensacola is a tremendous asset for the Blue Wahoos, and being approved by the Reds and Dr. Krimcheck, the Reds' Medical Director, is a real statement of the trust and confidence that the entire Reds organization has in Dr. DeCampos and Dr. Ostrander," Baldwin continued, "and we look forward to working with them."
